Explore by region
Nepal, region by region.
Six ranges, and they are not variations on each other. Start with the country you want to be in and the route follows from there.
Choosing by place rather than by route
Most people arrive knowing they want to see Nepal and not much more than that. Starting from the region is often easier than starting from a trek name: the Khumbu and the Annapurnas feel like different countries, and the restricted valleys feel like a third one again.
- Everest and the Khumbu. High, dramatic and Sherpa. Reached by a mountain flight, which is the one variable nobody can control.
- Annapurna. The most varied trekking in Nepal, from a three-day walk to a full high-pass circuit, all reached by road from Pokhara.
- Langtang. The closest high valley to Kathmandu. A drive rather than a flight, and quieter than it deserves to be.
- Manaslu and Tsum. Restricted, limited numbers, strongly Tibetan in character.
- Mustang. Behind the main range in the rain shadow, so it walks in the monsoon when nowhere else does.
- The far east and far west. Kanchenjunga and Dolpo. Three weeks, real remoteness, and very few other people.
