Cancellation and refunds

What happens if you cancel, if we cancel, and if the mountain cancels for both of us.

If you cancel

Tell us in writing, by email, and the date we receive it is the date that applies. The refund depends on how much has already been spent on your behalf, because permits, domestic flights and restricted-area fees are paid up front and are not refundable to us either.

If you cancel at any point before departure, we refund everything you have paid us, less the transaction fee your bank or card provider charged on the payment, which they do not return to us. That is the same free-cancellation promise shown on every trip page. The only other deductions are costs already spent on your behalf that nobody can recover, listed below, and these mostly arise in the last few weeks before you travel.

Non-refundable in every case: issued domestic air tickets, issued permits, and any third-party booking already paid and non-refundable. We will show you the actual amounts rather than a round figure.

If we cancel

We will only cancel a confirmed trip for reasons of safety or force majeure. If we do, you choose between a full refund of everything paid to us, or moving the trip to new dates with the money carried across. We do not keep an administration fee in that situation.

If the trip changes while you are on it

Weather, flight cancellations, illness, altitude, landslides and strikes all happen in Nepal. Your guide has the authority to alter the route where safety requires it, and that decision is final on the trail.

Where a change reduces the cost, we refund the difference. Where it increases the cost, for example extra nights in Kathmandu because Lukla is closed, that cost falls to you, and it is usually recoverable through travel insurance. We will lay out the options and their prices before anything is booked, not afterwards.

If you leave the trip early

No refund is due for unused days, accommodation or services, for any reason including altitude illness or a change of mind. This is what trip curtailment cover on your insurance is for.

How refunds are paid

To the account the payment came from, within 14 working days of agreement. Bank charges on an international transfer are deducted from the amount refunded, because the bank takes them regardless.

A human answer before a booking form

Ask us something difficult.

Altitude. Lukla weather. Guide licensing. What the price excludes. Whether a route is realistic for your fitness. Start with the question you actually have.
