Money
Payment and deposits
When money changes hands, how much of it, and what it buys at each stage.
⚠ This policy is a working draft. Have it checked against Nepali consumer and tourism law, and against your payment provider’s terms, before you rely on it.
What you pay, and when
- Enquiry and quotation: nothing. You can go as far as a written itinerary and a full cost breakdown without paying anything.
- To reserve: 30% of the trip cost. This confirms your dates, your guide and, where a restricted-area permit is involved, the permit application itself.
- The balance: ⚠ when the balance is due, e.g. on arrival in Kathmandu, or 30 days before departure.
How you can pay
⚠ List the payment methods you actually accept: bank transfer with the SWIFT details, card payment through your gateway, and cash in Kathmandu with the currencies accepted.
Card payments in Nepal carry a processing fee charged by the bank rather than by us. Where that applies, the exact figure is shown before you pay rather than added afterwards.
Currency
Prices on this site are quoted in US dollars (USD). Payments made in another currency are converted at your bank’s rate on the day, which is outside our control and can differ slightly from the figure you saw.
Prices, and when they can change
The price confirmed on your written itinerary is the price, and it does not change after you have reserved. The only exceptions are a change you ask for, and a government increase in permit or park fees, which we pass on at cost with the official notice attached.
What is not in the price
Every trip page lists its own exclusions in full. Across all trips, the usual ones are international flights, the Nepal visa, travel insurance, meals in Kathmandu, drinks, personal equipment, tips, and any cost arising from a delay, an early departure or an evacuation.
Tipping
Tipping is customary in Nepal and it is genuinely optional. Nobody on our staff is paid a wage that depends on it. If you want a guideline, ask, and we will give you the normal range rather than a number designed to flatter.
A human answer before a booking form
Ask us something difficult.
Altitude. Lukla weather. Guide licensing. What the price excludes. Whether a route is realistic for your fitness. Start with the question you actually have.
